Economic Environmental & Sustainability Overview
and Scrutiny Committee : 22nd September 2009
TERRY KING (Secretary, The Old Town Group)
Terry King asked the Committee to bear in mind the importance of community libraries as places where residents can meet socially. He made several points to emphasise how small, branch libraries play an essential role in community life. Terry heaped praise upon the central library, but said that branch libraries should not be sacrificed. He asked the Committee to note that their branch library is often the only publicly funded amenity to which most people have access. He had always favoured a library being located within the Arts Centre and mentioned that the empty adjacent building should be of interest to the Council when considering development of the Arts Centre.
